June 2018

Dear S-Anon Members,

It is often said the newcomer is the most important member in any gathering. Before the newcomer actually attends a local meeting, however, multiple proceedings typically occur. First off, there has to be a way for the newcomer to learn where and when the local group meets. Additionally, there is literature to be printed, the S-Anon website to be maintained, phones to be answered when inquirers call, and much more. These behind-the-scene actions ensure the S-Anon message of help and hope is there when needed. This important work can only occur, however, if we support our World Service Office (WSO).

I think we can all remember the pain that brought us to our first S-Anon meeting. Help and healing was available thanks to those who came before us — S-Anon members like you and me, who generously gave of their time, talent, and treasure to build up the S-Anon fellowship. As our fellowship continues to grow, our help is needed more than ever. It’s the collective effort of all members that sustains the S-Anon fellowship, whether it is service in your local group, service beyond the group level, and/or donations to support the service work of other members. Together we can do so much more than each of us can do alone.

As you explore the many ways to participate in helping our fellowship grow, I ask you to consider making a financial contribution to the World Service Office. Please donate from the heart and remember the priceless gift the S-Anon program offers each and every one of us. Contributions can be easily made through the S-Anon online store at www.sanon.org.

Blessings,

Tami H.
International Convention Committee Chair

February 2018

Dear S-Anon Members,

Want some ideas on how to grow membership in your local S-Anon group? Good news! The Public Information and Outreach Committee has been hard at work this past year creating a guide for just this purpose. We hope that this guide will become a vital resource for S-Anon groups to put into practice Step Twelve, “carry(ing) the message to others” in their communities.

In many ways, carrying the message of recovery is the backbone of this fellowship. Where would we be today had members who preceded us not served S-Anon through outreach, developing literature, or making financial contributions?

Through the collective participation of all S-Anon members, we can ensure that the hand of S-Anon is available to all seeking help from the pain and shame experienced because of sexaholism. During this Special Appeal, I ask that you consider those who are looking for help but have yet to find it. With member donations, S-Anon is able to continue to invest in and create service literature like the Public Information and Outreach Guide that builds upon a foundation of hope developed decades ago.

Three times a year, the Special Appeal gives us the opportunity to support the outreach work of S-Anon.  It is Step Twelve service in action, and we know the need is great. In honor of your own recovery and for those yet to come, please make a donation today. You can give online through the S-Anon online store.

Blessings,

Robin A.
Public Information and Outreach Committee Chair

October 2017

Dear S-Anon Members,

When you first heard about this program, did you have a hard time remembering how to pronounce “S-Anon”?  I know I did! “S-A-Anon” or “S-Al-Anon” or “Sa-non”… it’s quite impressive how creative I was able to get.

Having never been exposed to 12-Step programs prior to S-Anon, there were many new terms that, surprisingly, have become integrated into my normal speech, often to a point where I assume others understand exactly what I am saying… Higher Power, sexaholism, and 7th Tradition Donations, just to name a few.

At the S-Anon World Service Office, we often are asked, “What exactly is a Special Appeal?” when these triannual requests for donations are mailed out. We have realized that we casually use the term “Special Appeal,” often forgetting that to many, it’s either a new concept or only vaguely understood.

The Special Appeal is a request to the Fellowship for additional donations outside the regular 7th Tradition contributions that members provide to the WSO. These monetary gifts provide an income boost that supports both everyday operating expenses and, most recently, helps fund special projects, such as the development of the S-Anon Recovery Blog (now available on the newly revamped S-Anon website!) and the recently published Traditions One, Two, and Three booklet.

On average, only 12% of S-Anon groups answer this appeal for additional support, so just imagine what the impact would be if all 330 S-Anon groups participated! No amount is too small. Please consider making an extra contribution today.

Blessings,

Lindsay White
S-Anon World Service Office
Executive Director
