Greetings S-Anon Family,
Anticipation is growing for July’s Virtual International Convention hosted by Salt Lake City, Utah. They are following in the footsteps of Atlanta’s outstanding Convention Committee who hosted the first ever virtual International Convention in January. Both host cities had been preparing for a face-to-face convention until COVID turned our world upside down. What a wonderful gift they have provided to our fellowship by offering their conventions in virtual form and providing these opportunities to grow in recovery and connect with our extended S-Anon family in a time when so many are apart. Due to the time required in planning an International Convention, combined with the many yet unanswered questions surrounding COVID-19, a January 2022 International Convention will not take place.
BUT… The S-Anon International Convention Committee is excited to extend an invitation to all S-Anon members who are available, willing, and interested in serving on the July 2022 Virtual International Convention host committee. Since this will be the first convention that is proposed from the start as a virtual convention, it could be an S-Anon/S-Ateen only event or an S-Anon/S-Ateen and SA event where the fellowships work together but each have their own program and host committees.
If you have attended an international convention in years past, you can attest to the vital part they play in S-Anon Recovery, as they connect our local groups with a world-wide community in our common cause – helping family members and friends of sexaholics. How many times have you heard at a convention: “It is like going to a family reunion.”? At January’s Atlanta convention, the number of S-Anon members in attendance almost tripled the average attendance numbers of a face-to-face convention. What an unexpected benefit to open the experience up to so many in need of this opportunity to heal among others who can truly understand.
We are looking for dedicated members/cities who would be willing to take a big step up in service and volunteer in areas such as program, virtual platform management, website development, registration, finance, S-Ateen, fellowship, and public information and outreach. In the past, members needed to be local, but the very nature of virtual conventions is that members can be from various regions, states, or even countries. Whether it is a local group/intergroup that comes together or individuals willing to make the commitment to meet, plan, and prepare for a July 2022 virtual convention, the need is urgent to put together a committee to begin the process. Although this is an obligation to give of your time, any member who has served on a committee in the past will tell you that the benefits and growth far outweigh the efforts.
