On July 24, 2021, the World Service Conference (WSC) will be held virtually for the first time in the history of this decision-making body. The WSC Committee is working to address challenges presented by meeting virtually and is offering open office hours for S-Anon members with any questions, comments, or concerns on this year’s WSC.

Paid Special Workers

While details of the Conference are still being worked out, a number of paid special worker positions will need to be filled so the virtual event can proceed smoothly. The required time commitment will depend on how many members respond to this recruiting effort. The amount of payment also will be decided as the event gets closer.

Parliamentarian: The World Service Conference Committee (WSCC) is recruiting a paid special worker to fill the position of Parliamentarian for the 2021 WSC. Because the WSC follows Parliamentary Procedure as outlined in Robert’s Rules of Order, it is essential for the Conference to have a Parliamentarian available to address questions of procedure. This special worker could be an S-Anon member who is not a member of the WSC, but who is well versed in Robert’s Rules.

Zoom Specialist(s): The WSCC is recruiting paid special worker(s) to act as Zoom Specialist(s) for the 2021 WSC. We are looking for S-Anon member(s) who can set up Zoom operating procedures specific to the needs of conducting a WSC, facilitate the behind-the-Zoom-scenes on the day of the event, and train volunteers to help support the event.

If you are interested in one of these positions, please respond before May 1, 2021. For more information on these paid special worker positions, please email [email protected] to contact the WSCC Chair. Also, please spread the word to the groups you attend so that the WSCC will have the help they need to conduct a successful virtual WSC this year.

Observers at the WSC

Planning for a virtual WSC presents unfamiliar challenges, one of which is whether or not to allow observers at the WSC, as we have been able to do in the past. After much discussion and consideration, the WSCC has decided that technical limitations will prevent us from allowing observers to attend the 2021 WSC.
After review and approval of the minutes by all members of the WSC, the World Service Office publishes a detailed WSC Summary Packet on the Member Site member.sanon.org. The Packet includes minutes of the proceedings and all motion results. In addition, a “WSO Update” article will notify the fellowship that this material is available. Areas represented by an Area Delegate or Regional Trustee can also expect to be contacted directly by their representative to provide a summary of motion results.
